River Bend Food Bank has a new tool for organizations wishing to hold a digital food drive to provide fresh produce and lean proteins to people experiencing hunger.

We’re partnering with #GiveHealthy which provides a custom webpage for organizations like churches, schools or civic groups. Donors can visit the page and choose between 15-20 healthy food options to purchase online. Choices may include 23-pounds of fresh veggies, 12-pounds of mixed fruit, six-pounds of carrots or a six-pack of canned chicken.

When the drive concludes #GiveHealthy delivers the food to River Bend Food Bank for hunger relief in our community.

What’s needed to sign up

  • Organizations provide a few pieces of information and #GiveHealthy will set up the webpage for the digital food drive.
  • Organizations share about their drive to their community with a link and QR code.
  • Items available on the custom site will match the needs of hunger organizations in your region.
  • All items are delivered to River Bend Food Bank at no cost to your organization or the food bank.

What is the experience like for donors?

  • Donors visit and purchase items from the drive they wish to support.
  • Donors receive a tax receipt.

SUCCESS STORIES

First Congregational United Church of Christ Moline Food Drive launched the first #GiveHealthy digital food drive in our region. Outreach and Mission Board Member Jeff Griffith kicked off the drive on Aug. 16 with a donation of a 12-pound bag of mixed fruit and a six-pound bag of carrots. The congregation quickly exceeded its initial goal of 250 pounds.

“Food and shelter, those are two basic needs,” said Griffith. “Our church feels nobody should be denied those things and this is just a little piece that makes an impact. Everybody can help to fight insecurity directly in the Quad Cities.”

First Congregational UCC previously held a River Bend Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry. Whether giving funds, food or time, River Bend Food Bank can partner with your organization to make a difference for people experiencing hunger in our community.
