Fresh Food and Caring Neighbors

Posted June 8, 2026

For Amanda, the food pantry at SouthPark Mall provides fresh produce, pantry items, and a welcoming community that helps her family navigate tough times.

She visited the pantry a few years ago when her husband was no longer able to work due to a medical condition. Being able to access healthy food was a huge help, and let the family stretch their budget until his disability benefits took effect.

But recently, Amanda’s employer had to downsize, and she lost her job of 15 years. What’s more, she has physical challenges that limit the type of work she can do, and her current job options are sparse. As prices for food and utilities rise, their smaller monthly income just doesn’t stretch far enough.

Because of donors like you, Amanda, her husband, and her 15-year-old stepson, Kyle, can rely on us to bridge the gap. Once school starts back up, Kyle will also have breakfast and lunch at school. In the meanwhile, your support makes a difference.

“It gives people a chance to get the fresh vegetables, meats, and not just junk food,” Amanda shares. Having access to fresh produce means she can give her family the nutritious foods that will help maintain their health.

The pantry also offers a judgment-free zone filled with “actual smiles,” she says. “I love coming here.”

Amanda knows she won’t always need to come to the pantry but is thankful it’s here when she does. “Life gives you challenges and you have to do what you can to rise above,” Amanda explains. “Take this help for a while, and then when you no longer need it, step back.”

To generous friends like you, Amanda says, “Thank you so much for your generosity and your support. Without this, a lot of people would be stuck.”

We appreciate your continued support. You help ensure families like Amanda’s have the healthy food they need to thrive.
