Helping Families Thrive

Posted June 8, 2026

Petra is a familiar, cheerful face at the SouthPark Mall Food Pantry. She comes for additional support to feed her family — but also to see the friendly neighbors.

“This is the time that I get to see other people,” she says. “I don’t know them personally, but I know they need what I need.”

When her husband passed away two years ago, Petra’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandson moved in to help out. Petra’s grandson is disabled, and her son cares for him full time, so being together works out nicely for everyone.

Petra enjoys their company and the chance to make healthy meals for all four of them. However, like so many other neighbors, rising prices have made it hard for the family to afford enough nutritious food.

Thanks to support from friends like you, Petra can access family favorites like canned beans, corn, peanut butter, and oatmeal. She says she uses these staples to create comforting meals like soups, tacos, and her special recipe for chicken with olives.

Petra is grateful for the food she can access, and for the donors and volunteers who make it possible.

“The people that are here, they’re so helpful,” Petra says. “Every week it makes a big difference.”

Your continued generosity ensures that families like Petra’s never have to worry about their next meal. Thank you!
