“It Helps My Family a Lot”

Posted March 27, 2026

Children need lots of healthy food to keep them growing, playing, and learning … and that need doesn’t take a break for the summer. Thanks to compassionate supporters like you, we can ensure that the end of the school year doesn’t mean the end of nutritious meals.

With your help, we’ll fuel children, like 11-year old Mercy, all summer long. She spends her summer break playing soccer and hanging out with her three older siblings. But when school is out and she no longer has access to free or reduced-price meals, summer can be another difficult season of hunger for families like hers.

That’s why it’s such a relief when Mercy and her mom, Nawmpree, visit the food pantry at SouthPark Mall in Moline.

As they wander down each aisle, they stock up on essentials like meat, fresh produce, and everyday cooking ingredients to make family favorites like fried rice and chicken soup. But no matter what food they take home from the pantry, Nawmpree finds a way to cook it up into a delicious meal.

“I like any food she gets because she makes anything out of it,” Mercy says.

Now, instead of worrying about where her next meal will come from, Mercy can focus on summer fun. She’s grateful for the food her family receives, and for people like you who make the food pantry at SouthPark Mall possible.

“It helps my family a lot, and honestly, I hope when I get older I can donate here, too,” Mercy says.

Thank you for standing with us to end hunger across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. We can’t do this work without you.
